Title: The Rarest Thing In The World
Author: [personal profile] nianeyna
Fandom: The Elderlings Series by Robin Hobb
Characters/Pairings: FitzChivalry Farseer, The Fool
Spoilers: For the Farseer and Tawny Man trilogies
Word Count: 3500
Author's Notes: Eternal thanks to [livejournal.com profile] miarr and [livejournal.com profile] dreamwaffles for beta and cheerleading services. I realize this is a somewhat, ah... niche fandom, with which most of my flist will be unfamiliar. I've made no particular effort to make the fic understandable without having read the books. However if you're interested it should still be readable, though it won't have the same emotional resonance. Extended author's notes can be found here.

The fic on AO3

I told [livejournal.com profile] staple_madness about [livejournal.com profile] bendingsignpost's excellent The World on His Wrist, and she asked for a link. Me being... the way I am... this turned into a trawl through my pinboard account looking for Sherlock fics she probably hadn't read yet. So, here! Have a recs list.

In no particular order )

And there you have it! Sorry I was too lazy to like, write down the author's names and note pairings and warnings and stuff. You'll just have to make do with my ~carefully chosen~ excerpts and/or half-assed reviews.

GUYS GUYS LOOK WHAT [personal profile] pi MADE FOR ME!

A Treasure Planet fanvid for my very own! By the way if you haven't seen this movie you need to fix that, stat. It is basically the most delightful swashbuckling adventure you have ever seen, with added ~FEELINGS. Also my crush on Captain Amelia can be seen from Montressor Spaceport. SERIOUSLY THOUGH DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT COLLECT 200 DRUBLOONS.

This has been a public service announcement.

LOL WHAT

so the wireless on my mom's laptop wasn't working

and she went HERE NIA FIX IT

there was absolutely nothing wrong with it idek

but THE POINT OF THIS STORY IS

I went on google to check

and one of the frequent searches is... my username...

I don't know, it's not like I've gone to any great pains to keep my internet identity separate from my real one? Not since high school anyway. Still, it's weird to know your mom is lurking on your journal. And more importantly on your delicious bookmarks, which in my case are a sometimes really unfortunate window to my psyche. HI MOM, you should like, stop lurking creepily and say hello sometime! XD

I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT THE LATEST CARPE BREWSKI UPDATE THAT I CANNOT

ACTUALLY

PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF THE FANDOM SHENANIGANS THAT ARE GOING ON RIGHT NOW. D: I can't even read the comments, every time I try I just end up REREADING THE CHAPTER AGAIN.

right. yeah. just had to get that off my chest.

Someone should really revoke my google image search privileges. I was only going to get ONE picture for each of my character profiles. Curse you, XMFC cast, for being so sexy.

All my fic has officially been moved to the AO3! That took way longer than it should have, considering I've only published seven fics. OH WELL. In my defense, some of them had incredibly wonky html.

Fair warning: when I say "all my fic" I really do mean "everything I have ever published to the internet." TREAD WITH CAUTION. D:

So uh

Would anyone be interested in beta/cheerleading this Inception college au commentfic (I know, I know, what even is my life)? I feel kind of ridiculous asking for help with something THIS SILLY, but honestly I just need someone to bounce ideas off of. Because I feel like there's more to the story, but I'm at a loss as to what that, uh, actually is. Plus, I frequently have attacks of OH MY GOD THIS IS TERRIBLE WHY AM I INFLICTING IT ON THE WORLD*, and I need somebody to tell me whether or not I should keep writing.**

*this is why I've only posted like, five fics in as many years.

**if the answer is, "no, please wrap this shit up as quickly as possible because no one is interested" THAT'S FINE TOO. XD

In other news, I'm getting a massage today! :D :D :D FINALLY. It's gotten to the point where I literally can't relax my shoulders. I love my laptop absolutely to bits, but carrying it around all the time is HELL on the back, you know? Plus there's all the schoolbooks, and the fact that sitting at a computer is also bad for the posture, especially since I have no appropriate chairs.

Post a comment, and I will reply with one or two reasons why I think you're great. In return, you have to post this same meme on your blog and comment for other people.

(via [livejournal.com profile] lemniciate)

Pretty sure I've done this one before, but never let it be said that I pass up an excuse to fangirl all over my friends. (♥s you all). And hey, EVEN IF I DON'T KNOW YOU, don't be shy about commenting. I'm sure I can come up with something. ;)

You guys, this week was horrible. It was just, seriously, just awful. But then - just as I was finishing up at my brand new job that I already hate with a burning passion -

THIS AMAZINGNESS LANDED IN MY INBOX. )

NOT ONLY IS DELICIOUS NOT CLOSING, BUT YOU WILL NO LONGER HAVE TO MAKE A BOGUS YAHOO ACCOUNT BEFORE YOU CAN SIGN UP. I AM SO HAPPY.

meme, ganked from [livejournal.com profile] lemniciate!

When you see this, post an excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y. Or maybe someone could kick my arse into gear because at least one of these has to be finished by the end of the year. :/

In my case I have set a personal goal, this auspicious NaNoWriMo, to finish or at the very least make significant progress on at least one of my wips - since, as you'll soon see, starting new things is really not a problem for me. Finishing them, on the other hand... well, that would be why there's not much fic posted to this journal.

If you guys could like, tell me which of these if any is not a total disaster and would be worth continuing on with, that would be lovely. ♥

Merlin, Mercedes Lackey, Hobbdom, Hornblower, and Supernatural fic excerpts below )

That's not actually all of them (and ohgod, let's not even get into the topic of my original fic wips, because they are many and full of failure), but it's almost all of them and I'm tired and have work in the morning. So, thoughts? tl;dr?
nianeyna: I'd hit that so hard, whoever could pull me out would become the King of England (I'd hit that)
WHERE ARE THE LEVERAGE/INCEPTION CROSSOVERS?! Don't lie to me, I know they exist.
nianeyna: Tonight we dine wherever is reasonably affordable! (300 dining)
I finally got off my ass and imported all my lj entries over to dreamwidth. Why then did I title this a post of procrastination, you say? Ah, you see, what I actually should be doing is working on my secret angels fic, which is due... tomorrow.

SHIT.

To googledocs I go!

ETA: I have 8 dreamwidth invite codes if anyone wants to join the party over here. :D

Written for the [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo prompt: zombie apocalypse. See my bingo card.

Title: Brains: A Love Story
Author: [livejournal.com profile] nianeyna
Fandom: J2
Genre: h/c, crack, au, zombies!
Rating: R for gore
Length: 1500 words
Author's Notes: Pretty much all I know about Jared and Jensen is that apparently they're in some show together or something, can't quite remember what that's called. XD In that vein, does anyone on my flist know where I might post this? I'm not really in J2 fandom, obviously. All of the credit blame for this story goes to [livejournal.com profile] dreamwaffles, without whom I would have written something completely different and much less cracktastic for this fill. It is dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] brainmissing, because the day that I write a crack hurt/comfort zombie apocalypse J2 AU about zombies in love and don’t dedicate it to [livejournal.com profile] brainmissing is the day I kill myself out of shame.

This fic has been moved! It is now at AO3.

Look, I don't know either, okay? It's like it just vomited itself out of my head into Microsoft Word.

I didn't make a thread for myself personally since I've only posted one podfic (soon to change, I promise!), but you can find [livejournal.com profile] fgproductions 's thread here. Plus you should totally browse around and comment for anybody else you recognize. :)
nianeyna: Morgana from BBC's Merlin (Default)
Well, this is terribly exciting! My first podfic, other than the [livejournal.com profile] fgproductions stuff (which you guys should all totally go check out if you haven't already pimps shamelessly).

Title: Perfect
Author: [livejournal.com profile] misswinterhill
Reader: [livejournal.com profile] nianeyna
Fandom: Torchwood
Characters/Pairings: Jack/Ianto, Owen/Ianto friendship, implied Owen/Tosh, implied Gwen/Jack (unrequited/not acted upon), team love (of the platonic kind)
Genre: Fluff, mild angst, fluff
Rating: M for swearing. Lots and lots of swearing. Not bad swearing. Mostly pissed (drunk, if you're an American) swearing.
Warnings: none
Spoilers: All of S1, first ep of S2 but selectively. This sort of AUs away simply in that in trying to write fluff, I wrote a sitcom. Dr Who: Last of the Time Lords and surrounding eps. I have made some assumptions about the TW team's ability to contact people and be contacted. Spoilers for the name of the guy at TW2.
Summary: “My problem,” said Ianto, miserably. “Is that I drank nearly an entire bottle of bourbon on my own.”
Author's Note: There is a section that seems to repeat. It is intentional and slightly different. I'm not as stupid as I look.
Reader's Note: I promise you, I actually do know how to pronounce the word "bourbon." I think I must have had some sort of strange and very specific amnesia while I was recording this. I hope you can forgive me, dear listeners.

I have oodles of extra time this quarter due to my accounting class being canceled, so one of my resolutions (along with, get a job that pays more than minimum wage - yeah, that one's not going so well) is to actually do some podficcing. I've been meaning to do this since [personal profile] pi introduced me to the glory of podfic this summer, but I've been sort of stalled due to lack of a good space. I don't want to record in my dorm room, for reasons which, with three non-fannish roommates, should be obvious. But! Seattle U has a 'music room' that anyone can reserve and which is perfect for the job as it is basically just a quiet room in the basement with a door that locks, and you get it completely to yourself for the time you have it reserved. So, yay! That's solved.

My first recording session was from 8-9 pm today. I got about six and a half minutes of podfic out of the experience. >.< To be fair, though, I spent a good chunk of my hour futzing with Audacity in an effort to get it to play nice with my headset. Also cleaning up the music room, because I don't know about you guys, but I find it difficult to embark on a creative endeavor when there is someone's empty take-out box sitting by my elbow. It offends my muse, okay? College students, wtf.

I have the room reserved for two hours tomorrow, and hopefully things should go smoother. This time, I am not forgetting my water bottle.
nianeyna: one does not simply rock into mordor (rock into mordor)
From [livejournal.com profile] amisophe: Let’s make a TARDIS wave throughout LJ. When you see this entry, post a picture of the show to your own journal.

(PS I have no idea what episode this is from, but it's a fun image. Also wtf, I don't have any Doctor Who icons?! My shame is like an ocean. D8)

Apparently S02E02 of Merlin is to be called "The Once and Future Queen."

...

LOL. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. XD

Okay, so it probably just means Uther's going to marry a troll, as hinted at in the season preview (which... I swear to you I have ACTUALLY READ THAT FIC. No, seriously. I am not making this up.) but still. Let's just say, I have been watching a lot of Queer as Folk lately, and the image of Arthur in a sequin-y dress with tons of sparkly makeup and high heels with rhinestones all over them WILL NOT LEAVE MY BRAIN. Oh, Show. You do love me. _ :D
